AGM 2017 Coordinator Report

Thank-you all for attending the 2017 Wilson Centre Seniors’ Advisory Association AGM. We have had a great year with a number of successful events: Chinese New Year, Robbie Burns Lunch, Volunteer Appreciation, Seniors Week, Summer BBQ’s, and Thanksgiving Lunch. Coming up we have a Veteran’s Lunch, and our annual Christmas Lunch, once again, generously sponsored by Harkin and Tidal Towing.

We underwent some staff changes in 2017. Cierra is off on maternity leave and we miss her greatly. I didn’t change that line from the last report.

We have undergone some changes with the construction but appreciate everyone’s continued support and attendance. If there is something we can do to make it easier for you to access the Centre, please talk to the staff.

Thank-you to all of the volunteers who volunteer in the kitchen, do our taxes, set the tables at events, serve and clean up at events, blood pressure, our valued Board members, the 50/50 ladies, Bingo callers and I’m sure I’m forgetting a few, but Thank-you.

The Centre has had support from a number of great community partners. The Wilson Pharmacy, Mayfair Terrace, the Rotary, Knights of Columbus, PoCo Bowl, Harken and Tidal Towing, Save on Foods and Terasen Gas. Again, I’m sure I’m forgetting a couple.

Congratulations to Ann Pratt, the 2016 Senior of the Year. I think we are going to have a challenging couple of years ahead. With the demolition of the current Centre and construction.of the new Centre, staff and Board will need to work together so we do not lose our second home feeling. The City is committed to continuing our programming it just may not in the traditional manner or the traditional spaces. In closing, I would like to thank the members for making the Wilson Centre such a great place to work. I think I have one of the best jobs ever, being lucky enough to work at a place like this!

Notes for the AGM October 18, 2017

  1. 2016/17 was essentially a break-even year, with revenues slightly exceeding expenses.
  2. All vestiges of the CVSS program have run through the statements, with the only reference being to the beginning balances of the prior year. All references to these former programs will be eliminated in next year’s financial statements.
  3. Cash balances are up slightly from the prior year-end. The Advisory is looking for ways in which to utilize the built up cash balance to comply with our status as a registered charity. One of the options being looked at is a bursary to support local students.
  4. In line with the approval at last year’s AGM, the independent accountant F.K. Chan & Company has performed a Notice to Reader engagement with respect to the financial statements for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017.

Resolution #1

RESOLVED THAT THE DRAFT ANNUAL FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 2017, AS PRESENTED AT THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE WILSON CENTRE SENIORS’ ADVISORY ASSOCIAITON ON OCTOBER 18, 2017, BE APPROVED BY THE MEMBERS.

Resolution #2

RESOLVED THAT F.K CHAN & COMPANY BE APPOINTED AS THE INDEPENDENT ACCOUNTANT FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 2018 AND THAT THE MEMBERS APPROVE F.K. CHAN 8: COMPANY TO PERFORM A NOTICE TO READER ENGAGEMENT FOR THAT FISCAL YEAR.
