Thank-you all for attending the 2016 Wilson Centre Seniors’ Advisory Association AGM.
We have had a great year with a number of successful events: Chinese New Year, Robbie Burns Lunch, Volunteer Appreciation, Seniors Week, Summer BBQ’s, Mexican Fiersta and Thanksgiving Lunch. Coming up we have a Veteran’s Lunch, British Lunch and our annual Christmas Lunch, once again, generously sponsored by Harkin and Tidal Towing.
We underwent some staff changes in 2016. Cierra is off on maternity leave with Harper and Ali is filling in until Cierra returns.
Jennifer left the City to go work Crossroads Hospice, managing their thrift store. We miss her dearly, but Sam has stepped up to the plate and has been doing a fantastic job. Be sure to stop by the kitchen and try her berry loaf!
The closure of CVSS had one positive outcome for the Centre. Suzanne Tempel has joined our staff team.
Thank-you to all of the volunteers who volunteer in the kitchen, do our taxes, set the tables at events, serve and clean up at events, blood pressure, our valued Board members, the 50/50 ladies, Bingo callers and l’m sure l’m forgetting a few, but Thank-you.
The Centre has had support from a npmber of great community partners. The Wilson Pharmacy, Amica, now named, Mayfair Terrace, the Rotary, Knights of Columbus, PoCo Bowl, Harken and Tidal Towing, Save on Foods and Terasen Gas. Again, l’m sure I’m forgetting a couple.
Congratulations to Joan Gould, the 2016 Senior of the Year.
We are very proud of our choir. Nigel continues to do an excellent job leading them and the choir represents the Centre and has several community performances. Their next show is at Hawthorne tomorrow.
I think we are going to have a challenging couple of years ahead. With the demolition of the current Centre and construction of the new Centre, staff and Board will need to work together so we do not lose our second home feeling. The City is committed to continuing our programming it just may not in the traditional manner or the traditional spaces.
In closing, I would like to thank the members for making the Wilson Centre such a great place to work. l think I have one of the best jobs ever, being lucky enough to, work at a place like this!
