It just seems like a few months ago, I was up here giving the Wilson Centre Staff annual report.
It’s been another full year for the Board. They should be congratulated for their participation in the Farmers’ Market, attendance and participation in local events, having horses in the May Day parade, the efforts put into the re-writing of the Constitution and Policy and Procedures manual and their constant support of the Centre, Volunteer and Staff.
Most importantly to note and congratulate them on is their never ending efforts to maintain CVSS operations by securing sustainable funding. They have been working very hard on getting their message out, gaining recognition and support. Just last night they had a meeting the MLA Linda Reimer, and Isabel MacKenzie, Provincial Senior’s Advocate.
We hosted another successful Healthy Living Fair. We had over 65 vendors in the Spring. Also in the Spring the Centre hosted a number of May Day events and then we rolled into Senior’s Week. Once again we appreciate the support of the Rotary, Amica, Astoria, Knights of Columbus and the Legion.
We have experienced a growth in technology programs; with the popularity of these programs f\ we have had to start offering more advanced courses to keep up with the members. Congratulations to our members who are keeping up with technology.
We have some new instructors making their mark at the Centre. Vince and Leslie have joined our fitness team. Vince also volunteers in the kitchen and actually watches the slide show on the café tv. He found his new feline friend flrom the City adoptable.
Marilyn is now teaching Brazilian Embroidery and you can see the groups beautiful creations on Wednesday morning in the Garden.
Carol our long time sewing and jewelry making instructor will be moving on in the New Year. Carol has recommended a couple of new people, Wendy and April will be joining us in January with some new and exciting programs.
Tammy Pilon will be returning to the Wilson Centre with a variety of programs such as mono-printing, and a number of painting workshops.
Effective January 1, there will some changes to access the Wilson Centre services. Services such as:
- Blood pressure clinics
- Foot clinics
- Unlimited drop in activities for $8.25/month
- Free admission to Health Talks, Education Series etc
- Potential membership to the Choir, Honeycombs or the Band Preferred rates on meals and events
We are going to eliminate the maximum 3 time drop in rule and non-members can drop in as many times as they like for a $3 drop in fee. Once again, the staff would like to thank the Board and all of our members for the support over the past year and we look forward to working with you over the next year.
