Summer 2019
With the anticipated summer move into the new Port Coquitlam Community Centre, this message is being penned with mixed feelings of nostalgia, anticipation and also appreciation. Oh, the memories! The Fall Affairs, Honeycombs, bake sales, health shows, fashion shows, PoCo’s 100th Birthday Bash, choirs, bands, music, dances, Karaoke, pub nights, instructors who inspired us or pushed us to do more, super volunteers, friends who are no longer with us and new friendships made. What will the future bring? We envision, exploring the new building and amenities — the library, pool, fitness centre and new kitchen. Along with that, we look forward to the return of so many programs we have enjoyed such as the Activity showcases, dances, afternoon socials, special suppers, maybe even sightseeing trips, but mostly reconnecting with everyone and an opportunity to create new memories. Please join me in sharing a number of heartfelt appreciations. First, to all the volunteers supporting our seniors through this phase of construction, whether in the kitchen, information desk, setting up for special events, carpooling or the Board of Wilson Centre Seniors’ Advisory Association. You have all remained committed to maintaining our connections and ensuring Wilson Seniors are going strong. Next we all wish Kelly Taylor well in her new responsibilities and would like to convey our gratitude for her many years working with us. In her place for the next year we welcome Amanda Costa as the new Recreation Leader for Wilson Seniors. Last and certainly not least, I would personally like to say “Thank you” to all who have braved the construction challenges. We can see the silver lining coming in the move to new premises with all the possibilities of things to come. Bear with us as the next phase of our life starts as soon as mid-summer. Could it be more fitting for Wilson Seniors to have the last official event at the Recreation Complex? Let’s make it one to remember! The Birthday Party/New Members Tea on Thursday, June 27th at 2pm. Sign up and let’s say Bon Voyage to the old and Aloha to the new with Classic Rewind at our Hawaiian Cruise themed party.

The party was wonderful. Great music by Classic Rewind, wonderful decor by the staff and the staff all dressed up as crew on the Love Boat and Wilson. Amazing turn out of people to enjoy the event. Thanks to everyone who participated.
