Thanks to all who came to the last official function in the old complex. It was a fantastic send off. A special thanks to the crew of the “Love Boat” for all their hard work.
I was privileged recently to have a tour of the new facility and have to say that it is going to be a show piece once it is completed. What I saw was rooms surrounded by windows. The kitchen will rival any commercial restaurant in the city. Wilson Lounge will be a gathering place with lots of light and space to meet old friends and welcome new. The games room looks ready for a number of activities with lots of space for variety.
There are going to be glitches in the next few months as staff adjusts to where the best fit will be for all our activities. As with any new premise we are going to have to put up with workmen and noise as the rest of the building is completed. IT IS WORTH IT.
Initially, I have been told there will be 3 entrances. One on the north east side where HandyDart can drop off clients, one from Wilson down the east side of the library and one on the south side.
Don’t forget to attend the Wilson Centre Seniors’ Advisory Association annual general meeting October 16th where a new executive and board members are elected to ensure that seniors have a voice in the new facility. If you are interested in serving on the board, let us know through the “Contact Us” page. Watch for time and place to be announced.
Hope everybody is resting up over the summer. Looking forward to seeing you in our new home away from home.
Joan Gould
Acting President
