AGM October 15, 2014

Hi everyone, my name is Marg Gordon and I am the Executive Director of Community Volunteer Services for seniors.

Suzanne Tempel, our Visiting Program Manager cannot be here today but sends everyone her greetings and best wishes.

Community Volunteer Services for Seniors has been operating since 1997, and currently serves:

  • Serving 180 senior clients
  • Utilizing 170 volunteers
  • Staffed by 2 part-time personnel Over 10,000 volunteer hours last year

CVSS supports isolated and homebound seniors by offering;

  • Shop by Phone Grocery Program for seniors 50+ and people with physical limitations. (Show Save on poster.) [Poster not available online – WebMistress]
  • Visiting Program which provides a friendly visit to homebound, isolated senior by a Visiting Volunteer once a week- for 1.5 – 2 hours.
  • Telephone Reassurance Program which provides a social phone call to isolated seniors by a Volunteer once a week.

The CVSS Office has fielded over 1,000 outside calls and provided information and referrals this past year.

Appreciation:

  • A heartfelt thank you to all members of the Wilson Centre Senior Advisory Association Board, the City of Port Coquitlam and Wilson Centre staff for their awesome help and continued support.
  • A special thank you to all the members who have made a donation to CVSS over the past year.
  • Thank you to our exceptional CVSS volunteers who dedicated over 10,919 hours in all CVSS Programs this year to help and service seniors in our community.

CVSS Garage /Bake/ Book Sale:

Fundraiser: We thank all the members and advisory board members for their support towards our Annual Fundraiser Garage/Bake/Book Sale held this June.

Over 640 volunteer hours were donated to this fundraising event alone! We raised over $3,000 which will be allocated to CVSS programs.

Funding Crisis:

  • 50% Funding Contract was not renewed from the United Way of the Lower Mainland this June 30
  • The Better At Home Provincial program has not provided any funding to CVSS
  • Result with no funding from United Way, no funding from the B@H program, CVSS needs to rely heavily on donations and grants both from the private and public sector.
  • However, we will persevere, through donations, through fundraising efforts, through successful grant applications and just because we cannot go away. Our isolated seniors need us.
  • If you know of an isolated senior or someone who needs our help please let us know. We know have these cards that we hand out at Save On Foods and at our events to raise awareness of who we are and asking people to be aware if they know of a senior we can help.
  • Fundraiser at Shaughnessy Station this Sunday. (Show poster.) [Poster not available online – WebMistress]

Once again,

  • Thank you for this opportunity to represent Community Volunteer Services for Seniors.
  • Thank you all for your on-going well wishes and support as we continue into the next year supporting the homebound, isolated senior in our community.
